supported by NTA, the Agricultural Credit Policy Council and
private tobacco-buying companies led by ULPI

were
harnessed for rice production to help boost rice supply
threatened by a global food crisis. They were provided with
financial assistance for the procurement of fertilizer,
insecticide and other inputs. NTA, this year, stepped up its
regular rice growing program for tobacco farmers who plant the
staple crop after the tobacco season.

industry is here to stay - Chavit |
Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson declared that
the tobacco industry is here to stay debunking claims to the contrary. A staunch advocate of tobacco growing, Singson allayed fears that the
chief cash crop of the Ilocos region is facing a bleak future in his speech during the 21st anniversary of the National Tobacco Admnistration (NTA)
