This week at the NTA Branch Offices saw the efforts of the branches to prepare for the upcoming tobacco season.

1. NTA Vigan. Branch Manager Minerva P. Mizal joined her Operations Unit team in San Juan, Ilocos Sur for the continuation of the series of orientation of the Tobacco Contract Growing System (TCGS) for farmer-cooperators in Barangays Malamin, Cacandongan, Darao, Camanggaan Muraya, Nagsupotan, Guimod Norte, Guimod Sur and Nagsabaran in San Juan, Ilocos Sur. The Branch also distributed tobacco production inputs, such as hybrid tobacco seeds, fertilizers, soil conditioners, crop protection agents, and suckercides, with full subsidy from LGU of San Juan. Vice Mayor Benjamin Sarmiento joined the Branch Office in the distribution of assistance at Barangay Barbar the previous week. Farmers in attendance were also given a set of Personnel Protective Equipment (cap, long-sleeved shirt, sets of rubber gloves, apron, first-aid kit, face masks and face shield), a donation from a leaf buyer firm. NTA Vigan also reported that the farmer-cooperators of the Improved Seedling Production Project have started seedbedding preparation in selected farm locations.

2. NTA Abra. Branch Manager Esmeralda G. Valera and staff from the Operations Unit joined Tubo Mayor Guilbert P. Ballangan and other local officials for the tobacco farmers’ meeting and orientation of TCGS, held at the Dap-ay Hall in Barangay Poblacion.

3. NTA Isabela. Branch officer-in-charge Joefrey T. Bautista, along with Supervising TPRO Manuel Beltran and Agriculturist II Della Daguro, met with Pentaleaf Corp. Manager Kendrick Pua to discuss programs and projects of NTA, and other matters concerning the farmers, in preparation of the tobacco planting season in the province. The meeting was held at the buying firm’s office in Cauayan City

4. NTA Cagayan. Branch Manager Corazon R. Riazonda attended the Regional Management Committee (DA2-RMC), 3rd Quarter Business Meeting, on September 30 at the PHILRICE Office in Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela. Among the topics discussed concerning the tobacco-rice farmers were updates of the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) and the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF). In the afternoon, after the meeting, Manager Riazonda, DA Officials and other Committee Members joined Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar in the distribution of farm machineries to the farmers in the province.

5. NTA Pangasinan and NTA La Union. The Branch Offices in La Union and Pangasinan joined the Civil Service Commission in the celebration of the 120th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary with the theme “Philippine Civil Service @ 120: Public Sector in the Age of Digital Transformation.” In Pangasinan, Branch Manager Engr. Cesario G. Sambrana awarded certificates of recognition to the long-serving Branch employees at their milestone, namely, Virgilio I. Rabang (35 years), Myrna P. Galaraga (30 years), Engr. Roger T. Madriaga (30 years), Edna C. Perlaoan (30 years) and Rechie B. Vallo (25 years). In La Union, Manager Dr. Giovanni B. Palabay and all the staff had a pictorial Branch Office pictorial with their new uniform.

6. NTA Candon. The Candon Branch joined NTA Abra, NTA Vigan and NTA Kadiwa in the Commission on Audit (COA) Entrance Conference through video conference app JioMeet on September 30. Candon Branch Manager Estrella G. De Peralta joined other Branch Managers, Administrative Officers, Accountants, and Cashiers of the Branch Offices and the Project Office. The Conference was presided by Supervising Auditor, assisted by Audit Team Leader Doris P. Singson and Audit Team Member Kevin de los Santos.

7. NTA Ilocos Norte. The Ilocos Norte Branch also attended the COA Entrance Conference on September 30, presided by State Auditors Francisca M. Asuncion and Melecio Vizcara. NTA Ilocos Norte officer-in-charge Luzviminda U. Padayao, Accountant III Valentino L. Valdez, Acting Cashier Adorlina S. Torres, and Operations Division head Divina D. Pagdilao attended the conference held the NTA Branch Office in Batac City.

8. All the Administrative Officers of the Branch Offices joined the 1st Administrative Department and Administrative Officers’ collaboration and update meeting through video conference app Microsoft Teams on September 30. Deputy Administrator for Support Services Benedicto M. Savellano also joined the meeting presided by Perla C. Manzon, officer in charge of the Administrative Department. Main agenda are updates on policies and processes, filling up of vacant positions, retirees, terminal leaves, scholarships, vehicle requests, and quality and safety workplace.
