SOME 558 tobacco farmers in La Union received free broiler chicks and assorted vegetable seed packs from NTA La Union under the agency’s Gulayan at Manukan sa Barangay (GMB) Project in a series of releases in five drop-off points across the province this November.
Beneficiaries are farmers in 12 tobacco-growing municipalities in the province whose crops were severely damaged by freak rains in the first quarter this year.
Each farmer received P7,041 worth of assorted seed packs of okra, string beans, and mungbean, free fertilizers and crop protection agents, and 25 broiler chicks including feeds, feeding materials and vitamins.
Farmer-recipients came from the 12 tobacco-growing municipalities, namely Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Naguillan, Rosario, San Fernando, Santol, Sto Tomas, and Sudipen.
The series of releases was supervised by Branch Manafer Dr. Giovanni B. Palabay, Chief Agriculturist Emma Beth B. Fantastico, acting Administrative Officer Albert C. Casison Supervising TPRO Warlie V. Oribello, Senior TPRO and Project Coordinator Christopher R. Supang, District I Supervisor Potentiano H. Apilado, COA resident auditor Robehgene N. Atud, and assisted by the Area Supervisors, Ruby A. Dacanay (Area 1), Rosita R. Gambito (Area 2), Ambrocio R. Nisperos Jr. (Area 3), Leni M. Arciaga (Area 4), and Joannaliza D. Ordinante (Area 5).
Said distribution was completed on the release of the 13,950 broiler chicks, 25 heads for each farmer-recipient on November 25, 2021.
