NTA top management officials headed by Administrator and CEO Belinda S. Sanchez, along with former Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar, had a two-day tour of tobacco farms under the tobacco contract growing system program of the Universal Leaf Philippines, Inc. (ULPI) in Balaoan, La Union, and Narvacan, Ilocos Sur on February 20-21.
In a briefing before the tour, ULPI President Winston P. Uy presented their newest digital online application called as Farm Location and Management Execution (FLAME) App, which is now utilized by their technicians in monitoring the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and tobacco production of their farmers.
The FLAME App has the Farm Location and Management Applications (FLMA), an interactive mobile-based software specially designed to provide real-time information to the farmers and ULPI Personnel.
The ULPI presented to the NTA officials the different tobacco types being processed in its plan in Agoo, La Union ready for distribution to the cigarette manufacturing companies here and abroad.
Mr. Uy showcased the air-cured Native Cigar Broadleaf tobacco that has great potential for production in the country because it has a higher buying price than the other type of native tobacco.
