NTA La Union Branch Manager Dr. Giovanni B. Palabay and his team visited this week the seedbeds of the Improved Tobacco Seedling Production Project in various sites in Balaoan, Sto. Tomas, and Agoo in La Union.
The Branch Office is implementing 45 modules for the project which is expected to provide 5.4 million good quality seedlings for Virginia and Burley production in the province. Beneficiaries are 359 farmer cooperators of the Tobacco Contract Growing System (TCGS) in Balaoan, Sudipen, Bangar, Santol, Naguilian, Agoo, Sto. Tomas, and Rosario.
According to Manager Palabay, the farmer-beneficiaries with an aggregate area of 270 hectares are expected to start transplanting the seedlings on December 2, and the activity will continue until the first week of January next year.
The ISTP Project for Virginia and Burley production is also being implemented in the other branches: Abra, Ilocos Norte, Vigan, Candon, Pangasinan, Isabela, and Cagayan.
